Dear MAAC Members,
I extend my greetings to you during this springtime, accompanied by some delightful news.
I am pleased to inform you that Transport Canada has approved flying at altitudes exceeding 400 feet and for aircraft weighing up to 35 kg. Transport Canada's safety and transport advisory committees have already begun evaluating this decision and its implications for our members.
Each club site will undergo reassessment to determine its eligibility for this new flying privilege. This reassessment, involving our 600 flight sites and 350 clubs, will continue until summer.
In the meantime, you can still fly up to 400 feet and with aircraft weighing up to 25 kilograms. However, those wishing to benefit from this additional privilege will need to comply with the new guidelines soon to be issued.
Furthermore, I am pleased to inform you that Transport Canada has also extended our existing Special Flight Operations Certificates (SFOCs) for an additional year. This includes the possibility of hosting American pilots, flying within 3 nm of a site of the Department of National Defense, and organizing public aviation events.
Now, let's turn to another important topic: the certification of pilots in Advanced Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS). While every member has already obtained the Basic RPAS Certificate, I want to emphasize the importance of the Advanced Certificate for those operating in controlled airspace.
Last year, MAAC established an online training program to prepare you for the Advanced RPAS Operations Certification exam. We have taken into account your feedback, including the challenges associated with booking a flight review session with an examiner and the associated costs.
In this regard, we are actively working with our partners to facilitate access to flight review sessions at a lower cost, considering a rate lower than that of a gallon of fuel for a GLOW engine. Further details will be communicated soon by your zone directors.
In conclusion, I encourage you to seriously consider obtaining the Advanced Certification, which will grant you further flying privileges. Our aim is to make this process as seamless as possible for all our members.
During this season of spring renewal, I also urge you to take care of your aircraft and carry out necessary maintenance.

Je vous adresse mes salutations en cette période printanière, accompagnées de nouvelles réjouissantes.
Je suis heureux de vous informer que Transport Canada a donné son accord pour le vol à des altitudes supérieures à 400 pieds et pour des aéronefs pesant jusqu'à 35 kg. Les comités consultatifs en matière de sécurité et de transport de Transport Canada ont déjà commencé à évaluer cette décision et ses implications pour nos membres.
Chaque site de club sera soumis à une réévaluation afin de déterminer son éligibilité à ce nouveau privilège de vol. Cette réévaluation, impliquant nos 600 sites de vol et 350 clubs, se déroulera jusqu'à l'été.
En attendant, vous pouvez toujours voler jusqu'à 400 pieds et avec des aéronefs pesant jusqu'à 25 kilos. Cependant, ceux qui souhaitent bénéficier de ce privilège supplémentaire devront se conformer aux nouvelles directives prochainement.
Par ailleurs, je suis heureux de vous informer que Transport Canada a également prolongé nos certificats d'opérations spécifiques (SFOC) existants pour une année supplémentaire. Cela concerne notamment la possibilité d'accueillir des pilotes américains, de voler a moins de 3 nm d'un site du ministère de la Défense nationale, ainsi que d'organiser des événements aériens publics.
Passons maintenant à un autre sujet important : la certification des pilotes en Système d'Aviation Télépiloté (SATP) avancée. Bien que chaque membre ait déjà obtenu le certificat de BASE, je tiens à souligner l'importance du certificat avancé pour ceux opérant dans un espace aérien contrôlé.
L'année dernière, la MAAC a mis en place une formation en ligne pour vous préparer à l'examen de certification des opérations avancées. Nous avons pris en compte vos commentaires, notamment les défis liés à la réservation d'une séance de révision de vol avec un examinateur et les coûts associés.
Dans ce contexte, nous travaillons activement avec nos partenaires pour faciliter l'accès à des séances de révision de vol à moindre coût, en envisageant un tarif inférieur à celui d'un gallon de carburant pour moteur GLOW. Des détails supplémentaires seront communiqués prochainement par vos directeurs de zone.
En conclusion, je vous encourage à envisager sérieusement l'obtention de la certification avancée, qui vous ouvrira davantage de privilèges de vol. Notre objectif est de faciliter ce processus pour tous nos membres.
En cette période de renouveau printanier, je vous invite également à prendre soin de vos appareils et à effectuer les maintenances nécessaires.
